To be able to assign more than 8 CPU cores (up to 32) to a Check_MK virt1 by default, we have changed the default hardware version from 7 to 8. You are now required to have at least ESXi version 5.0.
In case you need a higher hardware version for some reason it is totally fine to set this for you VM after importing. Take a look at the VMWare docs for details.
