We have redesigned Setup > General > Global settings and the site-specific settings of a site in Setup > Distributed monitoring. It makes it easier to find a setting, to see what it is set to, and to understand where that value comes from.
Finding a setting
The search field above the topics filters the settings by their title or internal name as you type, without reloading the page. Next to the search, the chips All settings, Modified only and Site overrides only narrow the list down to the settings you have changed or that sites override. In Global settings, Site overrides only appears as soon as at least one site overrides a setting.
The search, the chosen chip and the setting you are editing are kept in the URL, so you can bookmark a view or send a colleague a link to a setting.
Editing a setting
Clicking a setting opens it in a slide-in on the same page, so you keep your place in the list.
When you edit a setting in Global settings, the slide-in lists every site that overrides it, each with a link to the site-specific settings of that site. You see right away whether your change affects all sites or whether some of them keep their own value.
Site-specific settings
The site-specific settings of a site use the same page and tell the two sources of a value apart. Modified only shows every setting configured for this site, whether in Global settings or as an override, while Site overrides only shows just the settings this site overrides.
When you edit a setting there, the slide-in also shows the value from Global settings that the site uses as long as it has no override. Removing the site-specific value makes the site fall back to exactly that value.
Links and bookmarks to the previous pages, including links to a single setting, keep working for one major release. Please update them before upgrading to 3.1.0.
