The Checkmk appliance always contained preinstalled versions of Checkmk.
Due to the different release cycles of Checkmk and the appliance, this often led to the appliance initially delivering versions that were too old by default.
In most cases you had to download Checkmk separately anyway to get the desired Checkmk version.
The change now means that the initial installation of the appliance requires an additional step before you can create your first checkmk instance. The procedure is something like the following:
- Go to the Checkmk page and download the appliance package in the Checkmk version of your choice.
- Open the web configuration of the appliance.
- Navigate to Checkmk versions
- Upload the appliance Checkmk package
Now you are ready to create your Checkmk site.
