What did your path to Checkmk look like, and what particularly appealed to you about the role as Senior Accountant when you started with us?

What particularly appealed to me about the role as Senior Accountant at Checkmk was that you aren't just an "admin number" here. I wanted to take on responsibility and actively help shape Checkmk's processes instead of just managing what's already there.

If you had to describe your typical workday: What are your most important tasks in Finance & Risk, and which tools make your work easiest?

My typical workday is a mix of precision and innovation. My most important tasks include preparing monthly and annual financial statements as well as optimizing our processes to make them more scalable. When it comes to tools, DATEV is of course my professional foundation, and Excel is the Swiss Army knife for deeper analyses. I find it particularly exciting that we are now increasingly using AI-powered solutions. This takes repetitive tasks off our hands and gives me, as a Senior, more space for other topics.

Every department brings its own hurdles. What is currently the most exciting challenge in your job for you, and how are you tackling it?

The biggest challenge is our rapid growth – processes need to keep pace here. My goal is to transform existing procedures so that we create scalable workflows. I tackle this by replacing manual steps with automation so our accounting can easily grow alongside the company.

At Checkmk, we place a lot of value on togetherness. What do you appreciate most about collaborating with your immediate team, and what does the exchange with other departments look like?

What I appreciate most about my team is the open and regular exchange. When things get tight – especially during month- or year-end closing – it's a matter of course for us to help each other out. We keep close contact with other departments through targeted meetings to avoid friction and pull together in the same direction.

When you're not busy with accounting, risk topics, or finance – what does your perfect evening after work look like to clear your head?

My perfect evening after work starts with shutting my laptop and putting my phone aside. After that, I head out into nature with my kids – that's the best balance. A good coffee, time for sports, and meeting up with friends round it all off to get my head completely clear for the next day.

How did your journey at Checkmk begin? What prompted you to start working at Checkmk?

My journey at Checkmk began with the desire to bring my experience into a dynamic environment. What prompted me most was the combination of an exciting product and the open corporate culture. I wanted to move away from rigid structures and into a team where, as a Senior Accountant, you can truly make a difference and shape processes from the ground up.

What makes Checkmk – or your team in particular – special?

What makes us special is our hands-on mentality and the support within the team. Even though we work with hard numbers and deadlines in Finance & Risk, the atmosphere is relaxed and respectful. At Checkmk, there are no silos – you always find a listening ear and the motivation to find the best solution together, rather than just doing the bare minimum.
