Install Checkmk on Windows with the Virtual Appliance

Installing the Checkmk Virtual Appliance directly on the Windows systems to monitor is a great approach for setting up a dedicated monitoring environment with minimal overhead. It can be done on any Windows running VirtualBox, VMware ESXi or Proxmox. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. Download the Virtual Appliance from the download page
  2. Import the image and start the virtual machine
  3. Access Checkmk via the web-based interface
  4. Setup your Windows monitoring by adding the Windows host and installing the Checkmk agent on it (see below)

  1. Download the MSI package, directly or through the Agent Bakery
  2. Install the MSI file as an administrator
  3. Add the Windows server in Checkmk to start its monitoring.
